From ,my 20 years experience as a Physiotherapist and before this a Teacher in Health and Physical Education I have developed a new approach to the treatment of Back and Pelvic pain. Having diagnosed and treated many of these conditions over the years, I discovered that the way I had been trained to treat these problems was not giving me the amazing results that my new approach called Soaztherapy does.
Soaztherapy, is based on the FORCES acting over all of our spines. It approaches back pain in a totally novel and unique way to what you may have already experienced with other trained therapists. It is certainly different to how I was trained to treat back pain as a Physiotherapist.
At Soaztherapy, we look at your spine from the INSIDE. Not from the Outside. What I mean by this is that when you experience pain in your back or Pelvis is is because you have bad alignment in your spine. So pushing on the spine from the back or “cracking” the spine will not address these Forces. It’s a bit like a car that has bad alignment. This will result in premature wear and tear on the tyres and increased friction on other structures. Incorrect alignment in you and I means premature wear and tear on our Discs, Joints,and nerves and imbalances in the muscles within the Pelvis. All this results in Poor Posture.
It is these unequal Forces acting over our spines that cause these misalignments to occur. These same Forces are so powerful that they can pull the spine sideways commonly known as Scoliosis.
In our training as Physiotherapists we are trained to treat back pain by working directly onto the spine by pushing onto the stiff joints to loosen them. I have treated back pain in this way for most of my years in the clinical setting. I had good results from that approach, but most times people would come back a couple of months down the track with the same pain only sometimes worse on each subsequent visit. So short term results. I now regard that approach to be symptomatic treatment with in most cases only short term relief.
Soaztherapy, will target the Forces acting over your spine which create bad alignment and distortions resulting in pain.
Think of your back and the discs like a Marshmallow. The Disc is also very soft in the centre. If ;you hold a marshmallow between two fingers and squeeze the marshmallow squashed and the sides split. In your back this is the jelly part of the disc oozing out creating pressure on nerves in your back.
Soaz treats the cause of your pain not just the symptom. Its primarily used to treat the Forces acting over the spine that cause back, hip, buttock, groin and leg pain ( called Sciatica)
Soaztherapy also refers to the process of educating you the client about the origin of your pain.
How many times have you ever had a trained therapist explain to you HOW your disc became bulged or why your spine is worn or why the nerves are pinched? At our clinic you will be shown the mechanism of your pain and together we will aim to correct these imbalances, and show you how to prevent further episodes.
This method of treating also allows the spine to get back into balance so that pressure on discs and nerves can be alleviated.It has seen many people get pain relief but more importantly STAY PAIN FREE.
Another thing I have fou nd by treating the spine with this different approach is that as the spine starts to rebalance, and the forces are reduced over the spine, the whole POSTURE changes for the better. Biomechanically, the result of this is that the dynamics change all the way along the spine alleviating Neck and Shoulder problems as a secondary benefit. So people with poor posture often get shoulder impingement problems . Try this, If you slump your shoulders forward ( poor posture) then try and raise your arms out to the side up towards your ears, your arms wont go very far, because the shoulder joints are impinged. This can start off Neck and Shoulder pain. It is the forces pulling your spine into these distorted positions that created pain over time.
